OPERATIONAL COMPETENCE

OPERATIONAL COMPETENCE

Compliance speaks to having the required capacity to fulfill a function however it does not guarantee competence which is the ability to fulfil those requirements.

I.C.E. Medical Rescue can unashamedly claim the following competencies as clear competitive advantages over other private emergency services within our working environment:

  • Adequately equipped response and patient transportation units allowing our emergency practitioners to employ their knowledge based skills fully when saving lives, often providing procedures which are by nature equipment intensive.
  • Response times which are actively managed in order to minimise the time from the first call for help to the moment ours hands touch the patient.
  • All of our team members are naturally well-mannered therefore able to work easily with a wide diversity of nursing staff and healthcare professionals at any of the facilities they deal with.
  • I.C.E. Medical Rescue has the capability to provide inter hospital transfers for patients from zero days old to geriatric patients at levels of care ranging from the most basic of care all the way to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) level.

An example of the standardised case flow which outlines the stages and processes of a case as it is managed, from cradle to grave, by I.C.E. Medical Rescue includes the following aspects which are not always obvious:

  • A call for help is received on a voice logged line where the call is recorded for reference and forensic purposes.
  • A case register entry is made, the information such as date of the call, time, location and condition of the patient is confidentially recorded.
  • On arrival at scene the response team will give a brief update to our control system in the form of a voice note or S.M.S.
  • Once the scene has been made safe the patient is stabilised then transported to hospital for further care.
  • When the patient is handed over to the staff at the hospital, a copy of the ambulance medical record stating the patient’s condition and treatment rendered is handed to the hospital staff receiving the patient.
  • On completion of the case, the crew will again give an update to our control system in the form of a voice note or S.M.S.
  • Every case or call for assistance which is received by the I.C.E. Medical Rescue control system operators is regarded as urgent, the emergency crews also treat the cases with the same sense of urgency, rapid response driving is reserved for confirmed high priority emergencies.
